I've always thought that hardwood floors were beautiful. But, as with most things that are beautiful, there's upkeep to them. I truly thought that having hardwood floors would make life so much easier....nope! So not the case! I can now see crumbs 7 feet away, lol, so daily swifftering is a must. And scratches? Yeah, i tried to talk myself into saying "Those scratches add character in a house" but that line just didn't work. But i love the floors we have; down stairs is hardwood and it's beautiful when the sun hits the floors; they have such a warm glow to them....scratches and all.
Yesterday morning, i was reading about tips for cleaning floors and one of the tips was this: to use almonds to get scratches out of your hardwood floors. Yep, ALMONDS. I have one scratch that really bothers me near the breakfast area, so i thought that i didn't have anything to loose by trying. That was BEFORE i saw just how much freakin' almonds cost!! For a little jar, the name brand nuts were almost $8! Who knew that nuts were so dang expensive?!?! (My cheapness is showing, isn't it?) :) The store brand was almost $5 so, i instantly knew that those were
I truly didn't think that rubbing an almond on
But....
PRESTO!!!!
IT WORKED!!
I should have taken before and after shots, but i don't like to photograph my failures (and i was SURE that this would be one of them!), so here is a photo of my pretty hardwood floors....and a photo of the cheapo almonds. :)
Really. Almonds. Go try if you have hardwood floors!

OK.. first, dogs are really great at keeping your hardwood floors spotless :) Second, how do you do the cross out thing on your blog. I learned once but forgot.
Yeah I was wondering that too - that cross-out thing is really cool!
The strike-out thing is so easy:
~At the start of what you want to strike out, type in < s >
~At the end of what you want to strike out, type in < / s >
Do this without the spaces i included!
btw, i cleaned ALL of my floors today....and now, well, that's it for me, lol...
Wow, good to know! Beautiful house too!!!!! I have an old house and I have to face the fact that my only choice is to take the "gives the floor character" stance. Ugh. 2 80lb dogs and a toddler are NOT good for floors!
Great tip! Almonds and Cashews are super expensive...
I do not have hardwood floors, but getting them in our next house or getting htem here someday..
We have 2 labs that shed and 2 kids, so daily sweeping going on over here too.. It never ends!
Nuts issy;) Where's the furniture? lol L, M
PS. Emma is gorgeous as always and why are our "babies" so big already?
I have found a website that is fantastic for anything that you need to know... it is www.ask.com. I got crayon off our wall with WD40, I got sharpie off our cherry wood desk with a pink eraser, and paint out of the carpet with finger nail polish remover. It is a fantastic website.
Jennifer, omgosh, i'm so going to have to check out that website. Or maybe just keep your telephone number on speed dial when i get into a jam... :)
